REPOSE THOUGHTS
The privilege of slowing down in a world that won’t wait
(December 2024)
There’s something so hard to describe about seeing the passage of time unfold before your eyes.
I feel a deep sense of nostalgia and melancholy as I watch the empty apartment across from my house. It once belonged to an elderly couple, so happily settled there, but now, they’ve gone.
For months, I watched them pack and unpack boxes, preparing for their departure. And now the place stands empty. The same space, the same view, but without them. It was their last summer on the Côte d’Azur. They slowly prepared, and then they left. The sight moved me to tears.
It was a graphic depiction of life moving forward.
Now, no one lives there to tell the same stories they once lived. No trace of that couple remains. How brave they were to change their lives. They gathered their things and simply left.
And I realized, how fast time moves forward…
And in the end, although we often forget, we are the ones with the choice.
The choice to decide.
The freedom to say no.
The strength to pause.
The will to do something different.
The courage to choose change, not just think about it, but to actually do it.
The control to listen to those who advise against it, to understand their concern, to consider where they are coming from. But still, deep down, the freedom to choose yourself.
The capacity to listen to yourself.
In the end, you realize that only you truly know. Even if you doubt, even if fear shakes your very core, even if you have no idea what lies ahead. Even if it’s all uncertainty, all fog, and the future feels unstable. Still, deep down, you know the path.
Because stability is an illusion. And in the end, it’s just you. You have to choose the way forward.
Which steps you’re willing to climb.
Which streets you’re ready to cross.
Which spaces you want to inhabit.
And, even more bravely, which spaces you’re ready to leave behind…
What life are you willing to abandon?
What new life are you willing to create?
You have the freedom to create anything.
The freedom to explore. To explore the world, and yourself.
Only you.
Your life is yours. And time keeps moving. Faster and faster.
Faster and without asking permission. Time moves faster than you. And It doesn’t care about what’s in the way, it doesn’t stop to think or feel – time simply moves.
We deserve to stop time.
Life is so short and so incredibly beautiful, the least we deserve is the luxury of being present.
We deserve to be exactly where we want to be, in a place where we allow ourselves to feel everything.
A place where we can simply be.
We deserve to chase our desires, to let our own wishes guide us.
We deserve to be here, right here, right now.
Life is more than what we’ve been taught.
It’s not a race.
It’s not about who gets there first.
It’s about who enjoys the journey, no matter what the prize is.
